The University of Illorin has consecutively within seven (7) years, topped the chart as most preferred First choice university by admission seekers.
According to statistics report presented by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), more than 1.9 million applicants registered for 2020 higher education in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of which 5.23% representing up to 103,582 of total applicants, indicated UniIlorin as first preferred choice of university. The year 2020 is one, among other years UniIlorin has emerged outstanding with such an overall dominating visibility.
The university of Lagos and Bayero university Kano, made it to the third and fourth positions for the first time after 9 years.
Ahmadu Bello University emerged second for the fourth year with a total of 82,984 applications represented by 4.26%. Other detailed breakdown of the statistics includes –
- 95% applications preferred universities and degree awarding institutions over other tertiary institutions
- 99% applications went for Monotechnic and Polytechnic awarding national diploma (ND)
- 86% and 0.02% represented applications for National Examination Certificate (NCE) and National Innovation Diploma (NID) respectively.
